Whether it’s your first date, first dance, or fiftieth wedding anniversary, there’s nothing quite so romantic as dancing the waltz—especially if it’s a slow waltz with love-filled lyrics.
And there is no shortage of romantic waltz songs to choose from, whether you’re looking for an old classic, a modern pop song, or even something rock- or country-influenced. Get ready to hold your loved one close, because here are some of my favorites.
“A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri
This song was instantly popular when it first premiered in 2011, and it’s since become a beloved choice for weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions for couples. The lyrics are beautiful, whether you have been together for “a thousand years” or not. It’s a slow Viennese waltz for a love that will last a lifetime.
“Come Away With Me” by Norah Jones
This older song still has plenty of charm. Its tender lyrics will encourage you to hold your loved one close through a slow waltz. Light some candles and dance in the kitchen for your own sweet, romantic evening.
“You Are The Reason” by Calum Scott
Calum Scott released this love song in 2017, and there is another version featuring Leona Lewis. No matter which version you listen to, it is a heartwarming piece perfect for dancing with your loved ones. The tempo makes this song a Viennese waltz.
“It Is You ( I Have Loved)” by Dana Glover
This song may seem familiar to many couples in their 20s and 30s. It was featured in the movie Shrek. Don’t write it off, though: a joyfully romantic song, it’s perfect for dancing a slow waltz. If you are feeling romantic and nostalgic, this may be the perfect romantic waltz for you.
“Un Día Llegará” by Josh Groban
You don’t need to understand the lyrics of this song to understand the deep feelings behind it. Sung in Spanish, the song is entrancing, powerful, and dramatic. It is about the return of a loved one, and it makes for a beautiful waltz.
“I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz
This slow ballad played with an acoustic guitar has plenty of feeling behind it. It’s another Viennese waltz perfect for new and long-lasting couples alike.
“Perfect” by Ed Sheeran
Ever since Ed Sheeran released the song in 2017, it has been a go-to choice for weddings, anniversaries, and special occasions. And it’s also a Viennese waltz. It’s a wonderful song to dance to with your partner so you can celebrate your love.
“Kiss from a Rose” by Seal
Although Seal released this particular song in 1994, its passionate tone has stood the test of time. It is a slow Viennese waltz for a truly romantic moment.
“I’d Love You All Over Again” by Alan Jackson
This slow waltz is for those with country roots or tastes. It’s a romantic song perfect for anniversaries and relationships that have stood the test of time.
“Fascination” by Nat King Cole
The song will transport you to the times of the silver screen, when you would waltz through dance halls with your partner. Although it is an older song, the lyrics are just as relevant for couples today.
“The Only Exception” by Paramore
This waltz is for those who grew up in the early 2000s, listened to rock bands, and visited the Black Parade. It’s a soft love song from the band Paramore that speaks to the wonders of falling in love with someone.
“Once Upon a December” by The Wild Conductor
This one may not be exclusively about love and relationships, but is dear to many hearts and creates a hauntingly romantic atmosphere. It’s a lullaby music box cover of the main theme from Anastasia, and makes for a beautiful slow waltz.
